Why do we need such a big shelter?

You may be wondering why we need such a big shelter. The sad truth is that West Yorkshire is an area which has a very high record of animal cruelty, and unlike many areas in the South and the East, is poorly served by the bigger charities and rescues.

There are some excellent rescue groups, both independent and part of larger organisations, doing sterling work, but there is a dearth of animal homes in the area.

Our scatter map, gives an idea of the few shelters there are in our area and we hope it illustrates why there is a need for a bigger shelter in this area.

Keighley is well situated to serve not only the local town, but - thanks to excellent road links - towns such as Skipton and Halifax/Huddersfield on the A629, and Bradford and beyond on the A650. It is also only a short hop over the moors to places such as Hebden Bridge, Colne and Todmorden. Already, we receive requests for help from these areas.

An article in our local paper, the Keighley News

We are very pleased that the Keighley News have printed an article about our appeal. Hopefully, this will lead to offers of help, donations and support. The on-line article can be found here.

Our artist's impressions

We thought you might like to have a look at the first drawings of our new shelter. It is likely that the shelter will look very different as we will have to get planning permission and take advice from architects and other professionals, but these drawings give some idea of the type of shelter we're thinking about.
